Introduction:
The Department offers a range of undergraduate degree programmes designed to give a robust understanding of computing that enables students to pursue their career either for further education, or to take employment in the field of their choice in computing. All programmes provide theoretical foundations of Computer Sciences. Students will be able to apply relevant theory to the solution of practical problems. They will be able to analyse and apply existing algorithms and techniques, recommend techniques and algorithms appropriate to specific circumstances in the areas of fundamental systems (operating systems, communications systems, etc.) and major applications.

Structure and Syllabus:
Following two courses are offered on the University of London external degree programme.
- BSc. Information Systems and Management
- BSc. Computing and Information Systems (CIS)
For Information Systems and Management you are required to complete 12 units on the Standard Route. For BSc. Computing and Information Systems you are required to take 11 units and one project.

BSc. Information Systems & Management

Level 1: Four compulsory units

Principles of sociology (Full unit)

Introduction to Information Systems (Full unit)

Introduction to Business and Management (Full unit)

Introduction to Programming (Half unit)

Statistics 1 (Half unit)

 

Further Units

Organisation theory: an interdisciplinary approach

Information systems development and management

Information and communication technologies: principles and perspectives

Software engineering: theory and application

Information systems project

Information Systems Evaluation (Half Unit)

Sociology of Information Systems (Half unit)

Principles of marketing

Human resource management

* Graduates of any other disciplines can possibly take Graduate entry route to study 9 units. Please discuss with the college or visit University of London website www.londonexternal.ac.uk


Entrance Requirements:

In order to satisfy the entrance requirements for the BSc Information Systems and Management, applicants must be at least 17 years of age at the time of registration and must demonstrate that you have reached a level of competence in Mathematics at least equivalent to a pass at GCSE/GCE 'O' Level, at not less than grade C, in a mathematical subject. Applicants should also hold passes in either:


- two subjects at GCE 'A' Level + at least three further subjects at GCSE or GCE 'O' Level (at not less than grade C or a 'pass' if taken prior to 1975)
- or three subjects at GCE 'A' Level + one further subject at GCSE or GCE 'O' Level (at not less than grade C)
- 2 subjects at GCE 'A' Level + 2 subjects at 'AS' Level.
- Have fluent comprehension & writing skills in English

How to Apply:
While you apply to CECOS for full-time course, simultaneously complete an application form for the University of London External programme and send it to the University directly with the required documentary evidence, application handling fee and fee slip. You may apply to the University of London at any time of the year from 1 January to 17 September (if you live outside the European Union) and up to 17 October (if you live inside the EU). Applications received after the September/October deadline dates will be acknowledged and kept on file ready to be processed in January when the new admission year begins. The earlier in the year that you apply, the sooner the University of London will be able to process your application and give you a decision about your eligibility. Send your completed form with your documents and fee/fee slip to:

When to Apply:
You can submit your application at any time of the year. However, if you intend to take your first examination(s) next year, you are strongly advised to apply as early as possible
If you wish to register this year, the latest date by which your application must be received by the Undergraduate Admissions Office is 24th August.
Please note: If your application is received after the deadline date it will be kept on file and processed when the new admissions year opens in January.
