English Language
As advances in communications technology shrink the world, the need to
talk to another becomes increasingly important. Over 800 million people
worldwide speak English.
The CECOS London College offers the necessary skills and facilities to
teach English for all requirements, from basic level to highest standards.
Objectives
To teach English to students in structured lessons at a pace to suit each
individual. To encourage a friendly but disciplined atmosphere. To provide
books and computer-based training for all areas of learning. To offer
a friendly and relaxed social atmosphere.
To help students practise, develop and succeed in their studies. To develop
fluency in English to enable students to undertake further studies in
British Universities.
Lessons are carefully planned to be clear and useful but also to be enjoyable
and memorable. Our teachers are native-English speakers and well qualified,
experienced and professional. Every effort is made to combine students
of different nationalities in each class. The use of course-books is practised
and computer-based training supplements traditional classroom teaching.
Classes are held at four levels:
1. Elementary
In this course the student learns how to describe processes
and procedures; how to tell simple stories and write simple letter; and
how to listen to natural speech and understand the gist of what is being
said. At the same time further aspects of the English tense system are
studied, including the present continuous, the past continuous, the first
and second conditionals, future time clauses, and the use of the passive
in the present simple and the past simple.
2. Intermediate
At this level the student learns how to recognise and
use all aspects of the English tense system and how to use modal verbs;
how to talk with reasonable ease in the usual social situation; how to
give descriptions of films, programmes, and persons' characters. The student
is encouraged to read newspapers and simple popular books for pleasure
and to take part in discussions. The student learns how to write simple
narratives and summaries, and also formal and informal letters.
3. First Certificate
This course prepares students for the Cambridge First
Certificate Examination. This level equips the student to understand and
respond to spoken English and various registers of written English; to
write compositions on various subjects and in different styles; to re-phrase
sentences; handle idioms and verbs.
4. Certificate of Proficiency
This course prepares students for the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency
Examination. This course takes all the aspects of First Certificate English
to deeper levels of understanding and fluency, helping you to speak, read
and write like a native English speaker.
The Cambridge First Certificate and Certificate of Proficiency Examinations
in English are held twice a year in June and December. On successful completion
of the examination the University of Cambridge Examinations Board will
award a certificate.
